Week Seventeen - Diary

Over the past few weeks and throughout half term I have been working on the rest of the evaluation questions making sure I completely evaluated and make it clear for the reasons I made certain decisions throughout my magazine. Another continuous task I have been doing is to continue to improve my magazine, this is important as I need to make sure every page has been done to high standard to ensure my magazine is professional like others in the market.

Final Magazine

Front Cover

I made very small changes to my front cover, this consisted of; adding international pricing as my magazine will be distributed in other countries as opposed to just the UK, changing the models name above 'Laura and the Fix' as I had originally made a mistake in my final draft,

Contents Page

I made quite a few improvements on this page, the main being the subscription and review section as these were lacking in my final draft. The way in which the subscription section was changed is that I re-wrote the text included in the box, and added smaller images of previous magazine issues as this is a typical convention you find in a music magazine. Above this I improved the 'Review' section - this time I created a box for this section as previously I didn't have one, instead of just listing one artist the magazine will review I listed six reviews that would be included within the magazine. For three of the reviews listed I included images that related to those specific articles; this would therefore give the reader a look into who the artists included looked like (this could give them an insight to the artists style of music). One of the images that illustrate the V Festival was taken from the internet - however I manipulated it enough to be able to use it in my magazine e.g. I changed the exposure levels, added a stroke, the brightness etc. Smaller changes that I made on this page was making the font size slightly bigger as I thought the previous size was too big, by making the text smaller meant that there was additional white space; therefore, I added more pages/articles that would be included within the magazine.

Double Page Spread

I didn't make any changes to this double page spread as I didn't receive any improvements besides adding an effect to the quote which I did as I thought this would make it stand out further on the page. However, I did explore other improvements such as adding a banner however I felt as if it didn't fit well within the page, I also explored by changing the colours of the quote but ultimately decided that I preferred the colours I had already used.

Article

There were a variety of changes I made to my article page, one improvement was to add a pull quote; therefore, I made the decision to remove the artists name that was above the image and instead I added a quote from the article itself - this was done in a mild grey colour (the same colour I used on the double page spread) I then added a drop shadow. I also added a second pull quote within my main article to do this I had to wrap the text. In addition to this I added two banners to the page, one at the top and one at the bottom. These banners included the magazines name, identified whether the article was 'exclusive' and the magazines website; in addition I added a gradient to both to make it look more interesting and professional as opposed to just a plain box.

Week Sixteen - Diary

This week I continued to make improvements to my magazine, this was from the feedback I had recieved earlier from other media students. This was helpful as it will enable me to create a magazine that has all the correct elements to create a professional magazine. I also finished the next question for my evaluation (question 3); this question was what instituion I thought should distribute my magazine. This is important as magazines in the industry are very competitve as they all trying to gain an audience therefore I had to consider what instiution would enable my magazine to be distributed internationally and would attract a substantial audience.
